200KB is a comfortable budget, and the good news is that most photographs reach it without any reduction in dimensions at all. This is the range where compression stops being a compromise and simply removes waste.

At 200KB you can generally hold a full 1920×1080 image at good quality, or something around 2560×1440 with mild softening in the most detailed areas. For the vast majority of web use — blog headers, article images, product photographs, portfolio pieces — this is more than enough.

It is also a sensible default if you are not working to an externally imposed limit and simply want your images to stop slowing your pages down. Images are usually the heaviest thing on a web page, and getting them under 200KB each typically takes page weight from a problem to a non-issue.

If your source is a very large photograph and 200KB cannot cover it at full resolution, the tool reduces the dimensions rather than degrading the image. The output size is always shown.

Frequently asked questions

Will my image keep its original dimensions?

Usually yes. 200KB is generous enough to hold most photographs at full resolution. Very large sources — a 12-megapixel phone photo, say — may still be scaled down.

Is 200KB small enough for a fast website?

Yes, comfortably, provided you are not stacking many of them above the fold. Images under 200KB rarely become the bottleneck for Largest Contentful Paint.

What resolution fits in 200KB?

Around 1920×1080 at good quality for a typical photograph, and up to about 2560×1440 with mild softening. Simpler images fit at higher resolutions still.

Can I process a whole folder to this limit?

Yes. Drop a folder in and every image is compressed to the same budget, then downloadable as a single ZIP.
