1MB is a generous ceiling, and it is usually imposed by an email system, an upload form, or a messaging platform rather than by any concern about image quality. Almost any single photograph fits inside it at full resolution with quality to spare.
This is the one target on the site where you rarely have to compromise on anything. A 24-megapixel camera file straight out of the camera will typically drop from 8-12MB to under 1MB with no visible change whatsoever at normal viewing size — the original was simply saved at a quality setting far higher than the eye can use.
Common sources of the 1MB limit: email attachment policies, job application portals, insurance and claims uploads, and CMS media libraries with per-file caps. In all of these the goal is to fit the limit rather than to make the image small, so keeping quality high is the priority and this tool will do exactly that.

Will I notice any quality loss at 1MB?
Almost certainly not for a single photograph. Most camera and phone files are saved at a quality well beyond what the eye can distinguish, so the reduction removes waste rather than detail.
Will the dimensions stay the same?
Yes, in virtually every case. 1MB is ample for a full-resolution photograph, so no downscaling is needed.

Why is my camera file 12MB to begin with?
